well? whoa. these last 7 weeks have definitely revealed to us why most bands don’t record an album in 7 weeks. but wow do we have some tracks in-store for you! tons of new songs as well as the classics with full-blown reworking.
we just relocated engineer-master ben back at his home in tuscon to finish up the tracks and here i sit in the oh-so-lonely studio and thought id post something to at least partially reflect the vast amounts of energy that everyone put into these recordings. with most of the equipment gone, all that i could find were some of the sheets of notes that hadn’t been thrown away yet and such and thought they looked pretty sweet.
ben’s notes for guitar tones on shades… there are A LOT of guitars :)
we’ve put our “bengineer” to work this summer. without his skills (which extend far, far beyond building preamps if you haven’t realized), we would not have been able to do any of this. we are endlessly grateful and are happy to announce that mr. ben reed is going to be a producer of the album. we can’t wait to hear what his mixing and production wizardry does to these tracks and we’ll be sure to give a sneak-peak as soon as we get one…
until next time, all the best on your journeys and we’ll see you all in the fall.

here’s a glimpse from the studio (courtesy of the lovely kim hidalgo) of the band rehearsing one of the new songs for the album…
Last night Jubala played at the Nueva School in Hillsborough, California. It was a beautiful evening of music and happens to be the place where Chris and Trevor first came together to play music when they were eight years old. Thing always seem to come full circle, eh?
So, thank you to all of those who were there. We’re glad you came, so thanks. You may be wondering who this band is and where we came from and honestly sometimes we wonder the same thing. Here’s the best we’ve come up with so far:
jubala is…
soulful and melodic. ambitious and intricate. stripped and sensitive. jubala makes music.
with borderline obsessive attention to detail, sam (vocals), chris (guitar), zack (bass) and new members trevor (keys) and derek (drums) at last stand poised to quench your auditory appetite with their weapons of sonic expression.
arising from the mysterious forests of half moon bay, jubala first appeared during the spring of 2000 with a few of chris’s flowing guitar riffs and long nights of pre-halo era battle. six years departed, not much has changed. members and friendships reinvented, college educations, and countless quest-filled nights later, jubala has reemerged with a reservoir of music to share and a new action-packed lineup to enjoy.
jubala is here. stay close to be part of the creation of jubala’s inaugural recordings.
Stay tuned this weekend for the first of an installment of updates on the album recording process taking place this summer in Half Moon Bay. We’re one week in and minus a few minor challenges, things are sounding great.
Thanks again to all of you and hope to see you soon.

i would like to humbly introduce you all to the newest member of the jubala team: mr. ben reed. from the deserts of tuscon and the bowels of the USC engineering buildings we are proud to have him as engineer and resident sound wizard up here in half moon bay for our summer recording project.

right now we’re building the studio: constructing reverse engineered neve preamps (!!!), trudging through the process of learning how to wire up a digidesign hd system, and other such trials. many photos and videos to come as we commence our forest retreat.
have you heard as tall as lions? if not, you’re silly. check it out yo.
as tall as lions - be here now
breathe. life is amazing.
click any of the pictures to go to the flickr gallery yo. a track for ya too. this cool band air traffic out of the UK.
last one until the fall… our own night with friends robot love of danceism and the legendary helios jive. bound to be a super-eclectic evening raising money for charity with nice long sets for all. doors at 8…15 bucks.

This first one is from a couple clever emcees with a solid rhythm section called the Flobots. When I heard it on the radio I did a double-take.. by the end you might as well.

as many of you know, jubala (while without a drummer), has played a few small acoustic sets. here’s some less-than-perfect recordings of the set we did at ground zero with fable and ps nevermind.
